Lamu Port’s first berth to be opened next month

The first berth of the Lamu Port is now 98 per cent complete and is set to be unveiled next month.

The construction has been ongoing for three years. Stakeholders are optimistic that it will have a socio-economic transformation of the region through trade. It will open up the corridor counties to the rest of the country and neighbouring states.

At least 33 shipping companies have shown interest and their representatives have either toured the site or will do so before the opening date.

How Chinese firms plan to win Kenya’s heavy equipment market

Two of China’s biggest construction equipment manufacturers are eyeing big dollar infrastructure projects in the Kenyan counties as they seek to grow their overseas sales of heavy machinery such as cranes, excavators and graders.

The companies, XCMG Construction Machinery Co. Limited and Sany Group – which recently expanded into the country – have unveiled a raft of measures aimed to net more sales from contractors working in various counties across the country.

South Korea takes on China in battle for Kenya’s mega projects

A State corporation that funds overseas investment projects of South Korean construction companies has opened its fourth overseas office in Nairobi as it eyes mega Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in Kenya.

The Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND) says it will use its Kenya office to hunt for big ticket projects that are currently dominated by Chinese multinationals
